Important Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Information
As part of our commitment to product safety and regulatory compliance in NSW, we provide clear guidance to help you use, charge, store and maintain your e-bike battery safely. These recommendations support, but do not replace, the manufacturer’s instructions. Always follow all manufacturer guidelines and local regulations.
Certified Products
Before purchasing an e-bike or other e-micromobility device, please check that it appears on the official NSW register of certified products. Only approved products meet the new safety standards.
We strongly encourage all customers to choose verified and certified e-bikes and batteries for maximum safety and peace of mind.
Safe Charging Guidelines

Use only the charger supplied with your e-bike

Charge on a hard, non-flammable surface (e.g., tiles, concrete)

Keep away from beds, sofas, carpets, curtains and other flammable materials

Never charge unattended or overnight

Unplug once fully charged

Avoid charging in vehicles or direct sunlight

Tip: Keep charge between ~20% and 80% for battery longevity
Safe Battery Storage

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place

Keep away from heat, humidity and direct sunlight

For long-term storage, maintain charge between 30–80%

Do not use or store a battery that appears damaged, swollen, leaking or deformed
Fire Safety

Never open, modify or tamper with the battery

If you notice smoke, unusual smell or heat: stop charging immediately and move the bike/battery outdoors

Do not use water on a lithium-ion battery fire

Use sand or a suitable extinguisher and call emergency services if needed
Battery Disposal

Do not dispose of batteries in household bins

Take used or damaged batteries to an approved recycling facility

Signs of Damage
Stop using the battery immediately if you notice:

Swelling, bulging, cracking or leaking

Burning smell, smoke or overheating

Water damage or after a significant impact/drop
Store damaged batteries outdoors, away from structures, until safely recycled.
